Vega United is a community group made up primarily of survivors of the Borg incursion and assimilation of the planet Vega IX, and including new brothers in the Liberated Borg now freed of their slavery. This is without regard to if they once were of Vega Colony or not, they are kindred of experience, and will have a home with those of Vega Colony.
History[]
In 2409, the Borg attacked and conquered the Vega star system. The attack was so overwhelming and rapid that of the total of 160 million souls of Vega Colony and the 15 million Delta Triciatu, only 125,000 souls were evacuated. Starfleet was key in these evacuations. The surprise attack overwhelmed defenses and as an opening salvo, the Borg Cube simply seemed to scoop the entirety of the Triciatu colony off of the planet. As the Cube moved into position to settle where it could access both of the major population centers of the planet, Starfleet did its level best to occupy the Cube, while rescuing citizens.
Vega citizens who worked in the system also came to the aid of the colony. Mining transports dumped their cargos to be able to load passengers, Personnel transport pilots loaded on as many as they could before departing. Many risked life, limb and livelihood to rescue Vega Citizens. It is because of this, even those who were not Vega citizens but doing business there were invited to join the Vega United group.
Vega Colony has been tied to the DFIG through industrial contracts, trade and investment since the founding of the colony. Most did not know, a minority group called the Clan Badi which numbered in only tens of thousands, had a deeper tie. Starfleet was there day one, helping and rescuing survivors. They were critical to moving survivors to refugee camps where they could be seen by medical professionals and given needed food and shelter. The DFIG was the investor that owned many of the ships whose captains dumped cargo to help survivors. The DFIG supported the Captains decisions, and diverted more craft to aid, and rapidly organized supply and relief ships which would come to aid at the refugee centers.
The DFIG continued their support, dedicating a lot of resources to finding or providing proper housing. They said they believed no one deserved to live in refugee camps. While the Badi were such a small ethnic group, they did make up a higher than average survivor ratio. Nearly a thousand of the Badi were among the survivors, many of them were responsible for rescuing others. The DFIG, who had been started by a family that was at the head of the Badi clan, not only put their efforts behind helping, but also set aside a huge fund dedicated to ALL of the survivors of Vega, not just their own. It is rare a company will dedicate its assets to another's well being while asking nothing. In this case, the DFIG went one step farther. It dedicated eleven percent of the corporate assets to the survivors of Vega, on a permanent basis. Thus was made the Vega Survivors Fund, by divesting half of the assets owned by the founding family, and dedicated to rebuilding.
Birth of the Movement[]
The first months in the camps were expectedly chaos. Families were broken, separated, or decimated. The tragedy was a violation, which caused terror and physical damage that both needed to be treated. It would be years of counseling and support that would be necessary. The United Federation of Planets sent help, and professionals to aid the survivors. Their resources though were stretched thin as there was so much that year, and the years that followed that required those assets. Private individuals, corporate sponsors and the Vega Survivors Fund filled in the gaps, and took over when the UFP had to pull out.
Survivors were placed on hundreds of world, separating and creating a physical division that made coming together difficult. The assets being put to use for the VSF, changed this. With the support, the survivors were able within a decade, to be united again with the goal of rebuilding.
Vega United is immensely grateful to Starfleet and the people thereof. Putting themselves at risk to make the Vega System safe again for public access. Moreso, we are thankful for their recognition that the individual drones of the Borg Collective are actually victims as well. They have been working so hard to rescue many of our friends and family from the slavery of the Borg Collective. We of Vega United have chosen to recognize those who are liberated from the Borg slavery as kindred spirits who have also been brutalized by the Borg. To this end, those that are liberated are welcomed to join Vega United and are supported the same as those who survived the initial attack and were displaced.
When it was declared there were no more Borg in the Vega system, there was still a quarantine in effect by Starfleet and the UFP. The hopeful news of our world being free, gave us all hope to return. The quarantine was blow to that hope. It was because of this, Vega United went to the courts to try to get access to our homes again. We understood, the Borg Collective assimilated the whole of the colony, and spread through the planet. "The planet itself, is our home and will help it heal", is what we told the courts.
As was quoted in the free press concerning: "Vega Recolonization Application in 2425"
The Vega United group acts representing Vega Colony Survivors and a group of Liberated Borg who have joined with them, to regain rights to Vega IX which was still quarantined by Starfleet following the Borg Collective incursion and assimilation of the planet. All legal expenses of the effort are to be paid by the Vega Survivors Fund established by the DeLancey Foundation in 2410 on behalf of the heiress to the Delancey Trust, which was divided to create it. The Law Suite in UFP Courts was brought representing not only this group, but in conjunction with the DFIG who still claimed mineral rights, and DFIG Affiliates; Vega Transport Union, Vegan Industrial Minerals, Vega Industrial Collective, Independent Miner's Cooperative Vega System (IMC-VEGA).
The United Federation of Planets Court handed down its decision on September 1st, 2425, "granting the Vega United group dominion over the planet of Vega IX to re-establish a colony thereon." "The remaining assets, as well as mineral rights claims of any entity previously holding rights will be granted those rights in continuation."
Vega United welcomes organizations who have come to help rebuild, and those that are dedicated to freeing the drones of their shackles and cleansing planets of Borg infestation.

2431[]
Everything changed for Vega Colony in 2431. Starfleet researchers lead by Sara Asimova developed a genetic replacement therapy that could remove and replace Borg implants, everything short of near full body replacement could be healed. Over the two decades, more than two million Recovered Borg citizens of Vega Colony were returned to full humanity, free of all implants, with only psychological effects and memories to remain.
