The Vega Survivors Fund is a division of the DFIG established in 2410.
"To form and establish the infrastructure to provide necessary aid to the survivors of the Vega Disaster. Survivors of the colony, refugees and those left behind by those who were tragically lost."
Efforts
- Vega Refugee Assistance, Transport and Resettlement
- Expanded (as of 2420) Refugee Assistance, Transport and Resettlement for war and disaster victims.
2417[]
By the end of the year, the DFIG Board of Directors ratifies the decision to form a civilian fleet to serve the needs of displaced individuals and refugees. A new ship class is commissioned to be designed to meet these needs, cargo and colonist transportation independent of the established organizations. Funds set aside are projected to support a fleet of 10 surveyor class ships and crews as a 10 year plan.
2425[]
Starfleet security declared the Vega system no longer a no fly zone, and the crew of the SS Grásta Brigid was one of the first to move in to survey the damage. Two DFIG Freighters were discovered adrift, largely intact. The ECS Debussy and ECS Vivaldi were marked as claimed, and eventually returned to the DFIG Facilities of the Titan Orbital Shipyards.
The DFIG Board of Directors reassigns the proceeds of the Survivors Fund to the reconstruction of the Vega Colony, with the CFO of the effort elected from the survivor, Nine of Twelve as he has chosen to be known. The Board also voted that "Seventy Five Percent" of all profits of the entire conglomerate that is the DFIG will be funneled to the reclamation efforts and reconstruction of the Vega Colony for a period of not less than five years. The two recovered freighters will also be reconditioned and turned over to the colony for their benefit and use.
The DFIG sponsored a new research concern studying Borg technology left behind in the Vega system. The Vega Cybernetics Research Center will concentrate on returning benefit from the tragic Borg incursion, and aid the affected in returning to productive individual lives.
2426[]
The Vega Class Surveyor SS Rita Hayworth led by Captain Mykal Winslow, formerly of Starfleet, joined the effort to completely resurvey the Vega system, reclaim resources and equipment lost or abandoned during the Borg incursion that led to the capture and conversion of Vega Colony
2427[]
The SS Woodhull arrived on site, outfitted as a mobile hospital to serve those reconstructing Vega Colony. Fully funded by the Delancey Trust and operated by DFIG affiliates it is on unlimited lease to the Vega Survivors Fund.
Years ahead of schedule, 19 separate DFIG production facilities are fully back online, staffed and controlled by a majority of colonists who had been reclaimed and repatriated from the Borg. These independent contractors, with the full authority and support of the DFIG are dedicated to the rebuilding efforts, either through reclamation, repurpose, recycle or refining materials left behind or seeking to pull new sources. A product of the efforts of dedicated individuals supported by the Vega Survivors Fund, power generation through Pergium reactors, constructed and supplied in system now provided all of the electrical power and heating for the colony. It should be noted that a Borg technology power plant is also being tested and studied on Vega IX within the colony, that may be much more efficient and long lasting than the centuries old but reliable technology the colony used since the original founding.
As an effort to show the independent spirit of the people of Vega Colony, at the five year mark the CFO of the fund and spokesman for the colony Nine of Twelve reported that they will no longer accept the generous influx of money from the DFIG and will make effort to repay any loans already given from the 'Vega Survivors Fund so that the fund will stand as a welcome stopgap for future emergencies and tragedies.
2428[]
In a purchase agreement funded by the Vega Survivors Fund, the Gamma Quadrant trade alliance of the Karemma agreed to sell a full score of of their Karemma built trade ship hulls, which will be refit and shipped on to Vega after a layover at Antares Shipyards for basic equipment refit. These bulk grade transports will be turned over to Vega United for recovery effort, building Vega Colony and the subsequent economy of Vega. Delivery is scheduled for June of 2428.
