Vega colony was a Federation colony on the planet Vega IX in the Vega system. It was destroyed by the Borg Collective in early 2409(ce). Ground was broken to rebuild in mid 2425 after the Borg Collective was defeated and the planet declared safe by Starfleet.
History[]
Vegan Tyranny[]
Vega IX was the original homeworld of a cybernetic race of humanoids known to history only as the 'Vegan Tyranny', who had died out due to a pandemic of Vegan Choriomeningitis which was believed to have been synthesized accidentally. It was swiftly fatal to humanoids and highly communicable.
It is not known why the Vegan cities were limited to one continent, but ruins found on the other three continents suggest that might not always have been so. There were thousands of year old ruins of sprawling cities found on the other three continents, but the technology found there was at most equivalent to a steam age technology. Anthropologists suggest their farming or industrial processes may have caused ruin to their land, causing them to move when crops would no longer grow. Geologist suggest that a global ash layer found may give the answer. It may have been as a result of volcanic activity as much as four thousand years prior to their pandemic that may have caused a mass casualty event leaving a remaining portion of their society behind.
Regardless of how they got there, by the year 1600 of Earth, the Vegan Tyranny was a space faring race that had traveled to no less than five nearby systems, and with advanced technology conquered them. How the entire cybernetic species fell in less than a decade is not fully documented, but legends of several of the fiefdom worlds indicate that perhaps without support from their homeworld they were quickly overthrown by the native populations.
Triciatu[]
Earth year 2020 +/- 20 years, indications that colonists from the Delta Triciatu system had come to Vega IX. Soon after the demise of the Vegan Tyranny, Triciatu colonists relocated to established cities on the smaller south eastern continent and took advantage of the resources and infrastructure there. The Triciatu people are insular and do not welcome outsiders to their world, the colonists were no different.
The Triciatu colony was also insular and unwilling to open themselves to trade or even an embassy for the people of Earth who landed in the early 22nd century of Earth. Though they shared the world for three centuries, they did not open themselves to the colonists from Earth freely. They remained as a separate, peaceful society, a colony of their homeworld even when both the Vega Colony and Delta Triciatu Prime both sued for membership in the federation.
Once their homeworld became a member state, they did no longer forbid access, existing as Federation citizens and allowing access to their markets and embassies in a secure section in their west coast city of Tial. Trade was accepted from the western continents of agricultural products in return for processed rare element ores as a common occurrence. Cultural insulation was not enforced through law, but merely through a lack of welcoming. They did not want humans within their city, and the humans seemed to respect this. Triciatu did not seek to exist within the human cities as a whole, except within embassy-like trade houses.
It was suspected that the Triciatu held technology beyond that understood commonly among the Federation , and they guarded their technological advancements fiercely in the name of protecting others from themselves. That technology is as of yet still not known, as the south eastern continent was the first target of the Borg Collective in early 2409, and nothing of it was left after assimilation.
Vega Concern[]
Earth years 2077-81; three DY-245 colony ships set out for Vega on one way trips from Earth, part of an internationally sanctioned and supported colony effort known as the Vega Concern. Each carried nearly 100-200 colonists, supplies, and equipment to lay the groundwork for later ships carrying many more. They would not arrive in the Vega system until the 2130s (2130-34).
The XY-500 SS Agata was launched 2095(ce), and began dropping its cargo pods with supplies and colonists over the North West continent mid-February 2113. It would then do a turn around and return to Earth, and then follow up with another 500 colonists by the time first three launches would arrive in Vega. This caused the Vega Concern to establish a series of colonial villages dotting the east coast of the North Western Continent. In order from north to south New London, New Paris, and New Barcelona.
The Vega Concern continued to expand with multiple additional DY-500, Y-500, and J-Class colony ships that would arrive d join the colony over the next century. By the 2260s, the Vega Concern was well established in the North West continent, having developed into a moderately sized city of roughly 2.8 million souls.
LDS Church of the Stars[]
Earth year 2103; the DY-500 ECS Moroni set out for Vega IX under Captain Joseph M. Smith, who had been training with his crew at Titan's Christopher's Landing alongside other potential colonists preparing to venture out from the solar system. As a somewhat reclusive group that had experienced significant oppression during the Optimum Movement, the LDS colonists chose to go it alone on the North Eastern Continent. Gideon's Redoubt, founded 5-5-2123(ce), was the first section of the colony built from the structure of the ECS Moroni, which eventually would become the city of East Gideon many years later.
Badi Migration[]
Earth year 2105; the J-class ECS Hieronymus set out for Vega IX under the auspex of the UESPA. The initial launch was two hundred of the Clan Badi who had spent the previous decade training for the mission to their new home. It was later determined that more than a few of those who were training at the DFIG's new facility in orbit of Titan and living in Christopher's Landing were on the Optimum Movement undesirable list. The majority of the cargo modules contained the 30,000 metric tons load of equipment to set up an orbital transfer station. In addition was loaded, two small sub-light utility landing craft and materials to begin a resource mining operation. Unlike other missions, this was not intended to found a colony.
The mission of the first Hieronymus group was to set up a transfer point in orbit of Vega IX, survey a resource asteroid and set up a mine to retrieve resources to recoup some of the cost of the journey. The crew of the ECS Hieronymus chose the largest asteroid of the system for this mine which became known as "Galway 1". Badi Transfer Station went online 1-14-2114. As a result of the efforts to develop a spaceborne presence, no one from Clan Badi would settle on Vega IX until nearly 15 years later, upon November 2128 when the second Hieronymus group arrived with the colony mission. After awakening the colonists and assembling them in the transfer station, the colony elders chose to have the Clan Badi join the LDS Church settlement on the North Eastern Continent, forming their own settlement of Schronienie but in concert with the nearby LDS colonists. Years later, the two colonies would merge into a much larger city of East Gideon
The 2128 arrival of the ECS Hieronymus, while joyful for the future of the Clan Badi, was marred by tragedy. During the transit, the ship crossed through a meteor storm and suffered damage. As a result of the damage, there were 15 casualties due to a sleeper drop pod being badly breached. Among the lost was the Director of the DFIG William Isaac Delancey III, his wife and daughter. Eoin Cole Delancey was selected as head of the Clan Badi, to replace his father. It was he who suggested joining causes with the LDS Church.
The ECS Hieronymus was lost before a third colony group could make the trip. Future members of Clan Badi made the transfer on other UESPA craft, and later via UFP transports.
Federation[]
Earth year 2161; Originally the Vega Colony was an effort to leave Earth, as there was both a great desire for self determination and a fear that Earth would fall to a state of war again from which it could never recover. In the years following the founding of the Coalition of Planets there was great debate about even if the colony would claim association with their homeworld. Much debate was had about the nature of the association. Failure of years attempting to form relations with the Triciatu and pressure on the Vega Concern from the united colonies forming East Gideon who were attempting to establish profitable trade with both Draylax and Earth, by extension the new Federation
By 2245, both the North Western and North Eastern continental colonies had joined as a political unit declaring themselves as the Vega Colony, and a protectorate of the Federation as an extension of Earth as an Earth colony. Vega Colony sued for recognition of independence from Earth, and full membership in the Federation in 2335, though the bid was not successful until 2380 just post the Dominion War when the Triciatu homeworld was granted membership along with their colonies.
Borg Collective[]
Earth year 2409; a Borg cube entered the skies over Vega IX. The initial attacks skipped over the many craft and facilities in orbit, or on the moons or asteroids of the Vega system. The initial attack was a devastating blow on the South Eastern continent, leaving nothing but a thousand meter deep crater and no remnant of the civilization that was there prior. It is known that there was a significant number of the Triciatu citizens assimilated, but for the most part, it seemed they were simply obliterated.
Next, the satellites and the Badi II Transfer Station were taken, as were several freighters and mining craft that were attempting escape. It seemed then the Cube settled into orbit over the sea separating the North Western and North Eastern continents, and began not only assimilating the people of Vega Colony, but the planet itself.
At the time of the attack, the total population of Vega Colony numbered roughly 160 million, and the Triciatu were reported to have been nearly 15 million. Less than 125,000 souls escaped the system during the attack. The Borg Collective held Vega IX for nearly a decade before Starfleet was able to free the world from their grasp.
When experts were asked why the Triciatu were so obliterated, theories were put forward that perhaps the Borg Collective had some association with Vegan Tyranny and were exacting some form of revenge, or merely attempting to recover lost technology from hands not their own.
Vega Colony Reborn[]

UFP Courts, Earth. A law suit was brought forward by Ian Cochrane, BL. of the Eruditus Group Law Firm based in Cambridge, England, to represent Vega United who had received a grant from the DFIG administered Vega Survivors Fund to attempt to legally gain rights to retur to Vega.
04-03-2423[]
UFP Courts, Earth. A court decision five to four, granted those who could prove claims of their life in the Vega system the right to return, with the caveat; Once the system is sterilized of Borg Threat. It was tied up in the courts for another fourteen months as groups petitioned for recognition as survivors, and a definition for sterilized that could be accomplished.
08-13-2424[]
Vega United established a planning board for those who would return to Vega, again with DFIG support and began outfitting for a new Vega Colony and additional support networks. Three months later, the plan was approved and the project was due to begin May, 2425(ce).

North Eastern Continent, Vega IX. Lead teams began the preparation work on the banks of the Hiddekel River just north of the GPS marker that was once the settlement of Gideon's Redoubt. The official groundbreaking ceremony took place at dawn of the 6th, the spokesman Nine of Twelve giving a female Bolian named Chel an interview about the effort under way and its goals.
- Reestablish livable space
- Return Vega IX to its former beauty
- Welcome home expatriated Vegan Citizens
- Provide a welcoming home to all liberated Borg, who wish to be one with the colony
With the official ground breaking, Vega Colony was officially once again considered a legal incorporated entity, the planned first settlement was also incorporated as the city of New Gideon.

2430[]
The Vega Starbase, named Badi Transfer Station III or BTS3 was assembled in orbit of Vega IX over nearly a decade and went on line August 14, 2430, Earth Date, when the core systems were installed. The construction was still under way for eight years before considered final. The original station consisted of a crew ring, a docking ring, reactor assembly, consumables storage and reprocessing tanks. Over the next decade, additional sections were added to include the internal and external hangars, multiple refineries, extended quartering and resource storage.
BTS3 serves as a waypoint for docking of ships in orbit of Vega IX, geosynchronous orbit over the growing city of New Gideon. It serves as a trade hub and warehousing station. The area in spin orbit of the station contains dozens of smaller structures which draw power from the station, of these are starship maintenance and construction docks, storage facilities and starship mooring.
2431-2451[]
Everything changed for Vega Colony in 2431. Starfleet researchers lead by Sara Asimova developed a genetic replacement therapy that could remove and replace Borg implants, everything short of near full body replacement could be healed. Over the next two decades, more than two million Recovered Borg citizens of Vega Colony were returned to full humanity, free of all implants, with only psychological effects and memories to remain.
