CLASS DESCRIPTION[]
Operational as early as 2290, the type M was used under the auspex of Starfleet Medical Command as a Search and Rescue and Medivac craft used from Earth Spacedock, to nearly every Deep Space Station of the Federation. They were rarely seen aboard Starships, with the exception of Medical Ships. While they were phased out nearly entirely as of 2400, the last remaining six Jarvik Class Type M Shuttlcraft were still in use on the USS Hestia and were lost with that ship Stardate 86356.
Standard crew compliment consisted of a flight crew of two, three medical personnel, and were capable of transporting as many as twenty sick or wounded. While stationary, the shuttlecraft was capable of being used as a mobile surgical bay.
As early as 2381, Type 9a shuttlecraft were being converted to use and redesignated Type M. In 2420, a new much larger warp capable shuttle designed as a mobile operating theatre was designed and released for use as the new Type M Long Range Warp Shuttle.
