Deep Space 9. The USS Sentinel is docked with the station.
Terok Nor is a space station currently operated as a joint venture between the Cardassian Union and the Bajoran government. It was built over Bajor by the Cardassians during the Occupation of Bajor, where it operated as an ore processing station. The station was abandoned by the cardassians when the Bajorans won their freedom. The newly-liberated Bajorans asked the Federation for assistance, and Starfleet stepped in to restore the station to service under a new designation: Deep Space Nine.
Upon the discovery of a wormhole in the Denorios belt in 2369, Deep Space 9 was moved to the entry point of the Bajoran Wormhole, where it resided until 2447. Unlike most Starfleet installations, Deep Space 9 operated on a twenty-six hour day in coordination with Bajor's own day-night cycle.
Although owned by the Bajorans, Starfleet administrated the station following the Cardassians departure, initially under the command of Commander Benjamin Sisko. It had been under Federation operation since that time, with the exception of a brief occupation during the Dominion War. The USS Defiant NX-74205 was stationed there on a permanent basis, with Captain James Kurland was the station's commanding officer in 2409.
The station has been upgraded significantly during its lifetime, especially by the Federation. Just before the Dominion War, the Klingon Empire attacked the station with their full strength, and were unable to capture the station. Even during the Dominion War, it required the full strength of the combined Dominion and Cardassian fleets, combined with Legate Dukat's intimate knowledge of the station design, to capture the station.
During its lifetime, the station has been damaged and rebuilt on numerous occasions. The most notable was following the Battle of Bajor, which saw the station suffer significant damage along with the loss of hundreds of starships. This battle also saw a temporary movement of the station back into Bajor's orbit, which also facilitated repairs prior to being returned to the wormhole.
In 2447, Deep Space 9 was returned to joint Cardassian - Bajoran control and reverted to its original name of Terok Nor. A new DS9 was constructed as a replacement near the wormhole, while Terrok Nor was again returned to its original orbit over Bajor. Much of the technology installed by the Federation has been left in place, with the majority still being in working order. The station now serves as a museum, a tourist attraction, and a waystation for orbital traffic around Bajor.

The 22nd Mobile and Deep Space 9[]
Deep Space 9 served as a launching point for the 22nd Mobile Fleet for much of 2414 and the early part of 2415. Up until their transfer to Starbase 220, Donaldson and his staff maintained an office on DS9.
