Character Biography[]
Talyse was the first Etrynarian to join Starfleet.
She was initially assigned to the USS Enigma under the command of Captain Caritha Arfacio, who took a special interest in the young woman and her unique heritage. While initially Talyse's deal with her Matriarch was that she would serve in Starfleet for ten years and then return to be married off, during the ceremony where she was to fight her suitors she defeated every single one, including the man she had been supposed to lose to. She declared that she would not marry until she was ready to do so, then returned to the Enigma which caused a massive scandal for her house.
During a mission on Beryxia she was run through with a blade made of veracysium and became the only known survivor of an attack with such a weapon. Though she lived, it left her with a chronic condition due to the lingering presence of the substance in her blood. She required a daily regimen of injections to keep herself alive and, due to her species' touch telepathy, she could hear the voices of the people who had been transformed into the particles of veracysium. Though she was able to block them out most of the time, when in the presence of more of the material she would report hearing her "ghosts" screaming. In time, this became a reliable manner of detecting when certain Apostate vessels were nearby. However, this condition also made her ineligible for marriage to another Etrynarian, as she could no longer bear children naturally. This became a major point of depression for Talyse, for while she had not been ready to settle down before the injury it had always been her intention to do so at a later date.
She served with honors through the Dawn Wars, and eventually retired to start a family with her human husband Alex Sharpe.
Personal[]
Today Talyse is the sitting Matriarch of House Avelle, her Etrynarian clan. Since assuming this role she has pushed the rest of her people to embrace their circumstances and allow themselves to integrate into the galactic community. Though she still continues to encounter resistance from some of the other houses, she has achieved notable success with her people as a whole and has gained a respectable influence over Illan Minor.
Though initially her condition prevented her from being able to have children, a treatment was eventually developed that allowed her to go through pregnancies without the risk of the baby being harmed or infected with the veracysium in her blood. She has since had multiple children with her husband. The eldest two have decided to follow in their parents' footsteps and join Starfleet, while the rest are still too young to decide.
