The MACO enlisted rank immediately inferior to Master Sergeant and superior to Sergeant . In comparison to Starfleet's ranking system, a Staff Sergeant is equivalent to Senior Chief Petty Officer.
Typically commanding a squad (9 to 10 Soldiers), Staff Sergeants often have one or more Sergeants under their leadership. They are responsible for developing, maintaining and utilizing the full range of Soldiers' potential.
