CLASS DESCRIPTION[]
Originally conceived as a Type II Explorer, the Sovereign class was expected to replace the aging Excelsior class, as well as the Galaxy class. However, with the advent of the Dominion War, both classes were kept in service, with the Sovereign suplementing their numbers.
Equipped for a variety of missions, the Sovereign is capable of handling anything from Diplomacy, to exploration, to military actions. This class has engaged the Borg, the Dominion, and the Klingon Empire on multiple occasions, and has made a name for itself as a worthy opponent.
The most notable ship of the class is the seventh Enterprise, originally under the command of Captain Jean luc Picard, and later under the revived Captain Data. It has since been lost and presumed destroyed.

VARIANTS[]
Noble[]
Built as a more scientifically viable ship, the Noble sacrificed some of its combat performance for more science facilities. Sensors were fine-tuned for various anomalies, and most of the on board craft were intended for science-oriented missions.
Imperial[]
This variant was intended to be a more armored and tactical version, and focused heavily on more powerful weapon systems and increased defenses.
Solbianca[]
A slight improvement to the Imperial variant, this version featured more internal reinforcements than its predecessor. This class also introduced several experimental technologies designed to increase the survivability of the crew. These technologies are still considered experimental, and have not been distributed to the fleet despite the extended testing period. (note: The Solbianca class exists solely within the Daedalus roleplay lore, and is represented within Star Trek Online by a combination of various parts from other variants).
Majestic[]
This version was designed to incorporate more powerful warp drive systems, and was the first step in incorporating slipstream technology into the fleet.
Regent[]
This version incorporated several technological advances made in the last several years.
