CPT Seral Val S'Nat, noted as just "Seral" in most documentation. SERVICE NUMBER VA-391-1033
Seral is a scientist, historian, and diplomat. Much of her career she was known strictly as an academic. She became more active in fleet matters, and returned to pursuit of career endeavors just after the Battle of Sol, citing need for a change of focus.
Biographical[]
Seral is a graduate of the VSA Advanced Planetary Environmental Sciences programs. She was posted to the V'Shar, Scientific Inquiry Bureau as a Data Analyst. She left the V'shar two years after the Hobus disaster.
Seral joined Starfleet as a second career, choosing to use the opportunity to learn about the Federation her mother served in-depth in the process. She graduated SFA class of 2395 with Honors, obtaining a new degree in Federation History. Her initial assignment was as an adjunct instructor; in the History department. Seral continued her post-graduate studies and advanced to full professorship beginning the fall semester of 2398.
A decade later, she was approached for diplomatic training. She was engaged for diplomatic junkets and recruiting aboard a museum ship and was given a citation on her first negotiation as a junior attache’. Unfortunately, she suffered critical wounds and she returned to SFA as an instructor and extracurricular advisor during her recovery from her injuries.
Seral was later assigned to the Deep Space 15 station on the frontier of the Zenas Expanse. While not officially in a diplomatic capacity, she was to act in her capacities to help the local command in their discoveries and dealings with new species. One such species, the Lekaari, was fragmented centuries earlier. The refugees taken in by the Task Force were peaceful and caught between warring factions and pirate gangs. After months of diplomatic work gaining the trust of the elders, Seral led an 11-month mission to find a new world for them to colonize in peace.
She was rewarded with her first long term assignment as a junior attache to Mol'Rihan. She was granted a commendation by the Ambassador for her work with the Romulan people and her efforts to bridge understanding.
As many Federation personnel, Seral was recalled to Earth during the Battle of Sol. There she distinguished herself doing search and rescue, work. Also in the following weeks, she lead a volunteer senior cadet crew in clean up efforts and recovery work. She was offered a commendation but refused it.
Seral was then reassigned to starbase DS13, planetary sciences, and research. The 38th fleet mobilized, and assigned Seral as the Chief Science Officer aboard the USS Atlantis NCC-92381, the aging Excelsior-class starship used the fleet Admiral as his command base for the emergency in Bajor Sector. This brought her to the attention of the fleet admirals. Her work was pivotal in the success of their mission and was recognized with the Zefram Cochrane Medal of Excellence, and her years of service rewarded with a long-awaited promotion.
She was courted for permanent positions within the 38th fleet aboard several starships. However; due to the death of her last living relative, she was recalled to Vulcan to see to family matters during an extended leave of absence. She was coaxed back into service by a family acquaintance who was seeking to train his replacement aboard the USS Michael Faraday.
Family History[]
Seral's permanent home is listed as Kir Province, Vulcan". She is known to have homes both within the city, and the Monastery of Kir. The former that of her maternal grandmother's family for at least four generations, the latter that of her maternal grandfather's.
Seran S'Nat, an elder Vulcan monk of the Monastery at Kir, raised his daughter A'Sera alongside his wife Va'al in very traditional values and methodology of centuries of Vulcan tradition. A'Sera however, chose a life of service to the Federation, joining Starfleet. Some year's later, she returned to Vulcan to birth her own daughter, to be named Seral. Reaching an impasse after a few years spent on Vulcan, A'Sera returned to Starfleet and a posting as a junior science officer, sensors specialist on board the USS Odyssey NCC-71832 in early 2367. She took her daughter with her.
Seral was raised onboard the Odyssey for several years before the opening of the Dominion War. Seral was separated from her mother when non-essential crew and families were offloaded to DS9 in 2370 and never saw her again. It took months before she was returned to her Grandfather on Vulcan.
Va'al having passed in 2388, Seral was raised from age 7 to her adulthood by the hand of her grandfather Seran, her namesake. As with his own child, he stressed traditional values, ceremony and discipline. Seran also planned for her future, gaining her placement in the Science Academy and preparing her himself for her formal education. Seral gained the approval of her grandfather by completing her studies, her training, and accepting placement within the Bureau of Scientific Inquiry, within the V'Shar. It was an honorable, and logical appointment.
Seral broke with her grandfather's wishes when she left the V'Shar under strained circumstances in early 2390. She chose then to leave the home of her grandfather, and Vulcan, choosing instead to seek the path of her mother. She requested admittance to Starfleet, and was granted it the following year.
Service in Starfleet caused a rift, and Seral was unable to visit the Monastery at Kir, or the home of her grandmother's line in the city for many years. Finally to return to see to the final arrangements of Seran S'Nat.
