Biography[]
Upbringing[]
Doctor Sara Natalya Asimova is a Belarusian Cyberneticist and Geneticist from Minsk, Earth. Sarah was born to Irina Saroka and Ivan Asimov on January 7th 2391, She grew up in a hard household, her mother left her with her father when she was very young. The betrayal left her father, a renowned cyberneticist named Doctor Ivan Asimov, depressed and as Sara grew old that depression was hard on her. He tried to be a loving father but often found himself in a bottle. That was until something switched when Sara was eight years old. Her father through accident managed to discover a way to create an artificial implant that could replace the need for a person once controlled by the Borg to have a cortical implant. Now sober and able to fully embrace Sara as well as work he would often take her to the Daystrom Institute with him.
Sara quickly began to show aptitude in mathematics and sciences. With a particular interest in the topic of transhumanism. When she was thirteen years old she had an interface port installed into her neck to allow her to directly interface with computer systems. Unfortunately she did this behind Ivan's back which lead to him being very angry with her as the tech was on the experimental side. Though there were not any side effects Sara attempted not to use it when learning. Sara would attend Daystrom Institute gaining early admittance the age of 16.
Post Graduate Work
By 2414 Sara already had a defended doctorate in applied cybernetics and had written five papers on the concept of Transhumanism and cybernetic symbiosis. She was often at odds with many within the scientific community including having to deal with some protests from families who had suffered losses at the hands of the borg seeing her as a borg sympathizer.
Unfortunately tragedy would strike her family again when the implant her father designed failed inside a patient being recovered from the collective by Doctor Niaev i'Sahan t'Lena. Original reports suggested malpractice but further investigation revealed a faulty implant. Her father was discredited and quickly returned to the depressed drunk of her young life leading to their estrangement.
Sara soldiered on however, continuing to speak on her belief that the future of all species was the eventual voluntary synthesis of flesh and machine.
Service with Starfleet[]
In 2420 Sara took a posting on the USS Caelian under Captain Jackson Riens as a civilian science expert joining a crew of almost forty other civilian scientists. The Caelian was to explore the gamma quadrant testing out the use of the AHLRT system to find worlds that might have once hosted Iconian era civilizations.
During one of these missions Sara's cybernetic nature lead to her being compromised by an alien intelligence. That intelligence turned out to be the rage and guilt of an advanced AI that had slaughtered her own kind after they had again exterminated what remained of the Kemenan people. Sara through no control of her own killed fifteen of the Caelian's crew and civilian scientists and against his will forced Lt Commander Ragnar Björnsson to serve her, killing another six more of the crew who came to stop her from taking the ship. To save her the entity known as Aelania used Lt Jg Bren Riens to merge with the rogue code within Sara's mind, freeing her from the control of the machine. The stress left Sara's body rejecting her brain implant which had to be removed. Sara body was also severely burned. The entity of Aelania did not survive the encounter, self deleting to contain the rogue code. Sara would undergo recovery at Starfleet Medical for the better part of a year. Including having her implant removed. On an otherwise perfect skin it is the only scar she chose to keep.
Sara would return to the Caelian after her treatment and remain there when it entered the LMC. Sara served aboard until she took a position on the Citadel.
Ragnar[]
Ragnar Björnsson and Sara started off on slightly adversarial terms, though that stimmed mostly from Ragnar's overt pursuit of her and Sara's own little game of cat and mouse. Eventually though after her ordeal and years later Sara admitted her affection and their relationship began in earnest. Sara and Ragnar would eventually marry in the summer of 2438 in a ceremony on Izar taking their honeymoon on Magna Roma.
