CLASS DESCRIPTION[]
Active prior to 2371, Saber class ships have been involved in many large-scale Starfleet engagements. Featuring notably in the second Borg incursion, Saber-class ships were instrumental in protecting earth. Throughout the Dominion War, these small ships were heavily involved in both defensive and offensive actions, including Operation Return and the final offensive on the Cardassian homeworld.
Due to its compact design, the Saber-class was ideal for a variety of roles, ranging from support roles to escort duty. With its small size and decent maneuverability, the Saber is capable of performing adequately in combat. However, it is much more suited for a support role. Throughout its career, the Saber has proven to be a reliable workhorse of a ship, so long as it stays within an acceptable range for resupply.

Variants[]
Saber[]
The original and most readibly identifyable variant of the class, the Saber has been in service for almost 50 years. Having seen action against the Borg, Dominion, Klingons, and Iconians, the Saber has earned its name and its place in history.
Rapier[]
Introduced in 2404, the Rapier class was an attempt to diversify the Saber class. Featuring upsweap nacelles and a reconfigured engineering hull, the class leant itself to a more scientific role. However, the prototype was lost during a survey of the Wormhole, and was not recovered until 2409.
Ushaan[]
Introduced in the early days of the Klingon War, the Ushaan was an attempt to improve the reliability of the class. Although it saw only limited production, the Ushaan featured more powerful impulse engines and a more stable nacelle design reminiscent of the aging Miranda class design.
Gladius[]
With the Klingon War continuing to rage, Starfleet tasked the SCE with modifying the Saber design to be more combat-capable. The result was the Gladius, which featured a reinforced hull and nacelle design, along with more powerful weapon systems. Although still not directly comparable to more tactically-oriented ships, the Gladius is more than capable of holding its own in combat.
da Vinci[]
The da Vinci class saw a radical change in the overall design, although the class was still within design tolerances enough for parts to be interchangeable with other Saber-line vessels. The da Vinci incorporated several new and experimental technologies, many of which were theorized by the crew of the previous USS da Vinci.
