The Romulan Republic is a splinter faction friendly to both the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire. The Romulan Star Empire is considered hostile, and armed conflicts erupt frequently between the two Romulan powers. Not to be confused with the defunct Imperial Romulan State, the Romulan Republic is comprised primarily of Reunificationist Romulans and rebel Remans
Government[]
The Republic's current government structure is unknown, although D'tan of the Reuinifcation Movement, and Obisek of the Remans, appear to jointly share leadership at this time.
Military[]
The Romulan Republic appears to use the existing military structure of the Romulan Star Empire, but without the added complication of the Tal Shiar. Ships, equipment, and personnel are provided by those ship commanders who have joined the cause, or whatever support colony worlds can provide.
More recently, some Republic commanders have directly allied with either the Federation or Klingon Empire, bringing the resources of both governments to the Republic. Some conspiracy theorists have speculated that this is a ploy to strengthen Romulan interests in preparation for some kind of attack.
Starships[]
The Romulans use several different starship classes. Most of their current fleet consists of older ships, with the majority of newer ships commanded by former Imperial commanders who defected from the Empire.
History[]
The Romulan Republic was firmly established in late 2409, after the colony of New Romulus was founded. This planet, also known as Dewa III, Vastam, and Mol'Rihan, is the third planet of the system, and is located in the Tau Dewa sector block.
Following the foundation of New Romulus, D'tan formally sought help from both the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire. Due to the constant threat of Tal Shiar and Tholian attack, the Romulan Republic was desparate for protection. Both governments agreed to protect the Tau Dewa sector block, in exchange for access to Romulan technology. In addition, individual Romulan commanders who had proven themselves were offered the chance to operate in conjunction with allied forces.
