Class Description[]

Class Development Project Patch

Building off of the success of the Aventine Class subtype of the Vesta class of starships.

"Following Voyager's return to the Alpha Quadrant in 2378, Starfleet began working on the Slipstream technology recovered. Simultaneously, work was begun on a new class of ship, which would test both this and other new technologies being developed. This new class of ship was code-named the Vesta."

The first prototypes were fielded in 2380 in three main prototypes given names for three of the 'Seven Hills of Rome'. The USS Aventine (NCC-82602) was designed with focus more on reconnaissance, sensors sensitivity, as well as maneuverability and speed than defensive systems. Though this subtype is still more than capable of defending itself, Aventine-type ships are advised to avoid combat unless absolutely necessary.

The U.S.S. Aventine was one of three successful subvariants that showed a proof of concept. Future refits, including a major refit at 30 years of service doubled down on the class strengths. The updated design was used for additional starships to be constructed using the lessons learned and successes gained. One such ship was the U.S.S. Caelian (NCC-99521), which unfortunately was lost in 2441.

Admiral Jackson Riens, the new Director at the Applied Warp Designs at Utopia Planitia drive yards Mars, Sol, applied his experience of years as an engineer and the Captain of the Caelian for years, to the designs of the existing Aventine Class. The protype design NX-143780 was ready for flight testing in 2445. After the shake down crew finished detailing, and applying adjustments, the finished NX-143780 needed a name, and a subtype class name. Still part of the Vesta program, the new Quirinal Class design was ready for rollout. Named for the USS Quirinal (NCC-82610), who's ship and crew were lost with all hands in heroic action during the Hur'q Conflict.

As part of Starfleet directives concerning Photonic Sentient life forms, computer capacity must equal capacity to evacuate as many computer residing life forms as physical life forms, as such with all new ship designs the Quirinal Class maintains a tertiary memory storage equivalent of 10,000 stored standard Photonics.
