The most junior MACO enlisted rank immediately inferior to Lance Corporal . In comparison to Starfleet's ranking system, a Private is equivalent to Crewman.
Privates are sometimes nicknamed "grunts", "groundpounders", or just "soldier", as they do whatever is required of them. Privates make up the majority of the ground forces, and are the starting point for most enlisted personnel.
