Also Known As: Abigail, or Ann Gale; a singer, songwriter, musician active in the late 1960s

Born in Kansas City, Kansas, little is known about the youth and home-life of this young woman. Her father was a Colonel in the US Airforce, and also stationed at Offutt AFB. Nancy, as she was known locally, joined the Air Force Nurses Corps 1964 and served until separated from the service in 1969.

No official records of the life of Nancy DeLancey are known to exist from 1969 until 1990 when she purchased a home at 821 Lombard St, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. From 1990-1996, Ms. DeLancey was recorded to live the life of a recluse, though police reports indicate that she was friendly and helpful to direct neighbors and community, but was rarely seen leaving her home.

October 2nd 1996, police and fire departments were called to the home of the woman then known locally as Abigail DeLancey. The home was fully engulfed in flame, and took nine hours to bring under control. Two casualties of the fire were determined to be the home owner Nancine Abigail DeLancey (Deceased), and Jose Edwardo Gonzalez a homeless man who was burned attempting to rescue the home owner.

Police reports determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma and small caliber gunshot wound to the head. Mr. Gonzalez was arrested and charged with her murder, and was detained in lock up for a period of nine months while awaiting trial. Ultimately, Ms. DeLancey's own attorney Nicholas Erris, ESQ defended Mr. Gonzalez who had proclaimed his innocence from the beginning. Ultimately, a stipend was awarded from the estate of the deceased to aid Mr. Gonzalez to gain his footing in life.

Further disposition of her estate resulted in the forming of the DeLancey Foundation for the Preservation of Music and the Arts, which would find its home at 2002-2006 Delancey Place, Philadelphia PA.

Philanthropy:[]

When the lawyers [1] finished tallying her assets, the unimpressive sum left little to be distributed, but for the sizable insurance policy left to an at-the-time unnamed brother. Abigail DeLancey though, had no brother according to records. It would take some time for her birth name to be routed out, and then the name of her brother. The funds were earmarked to go to "Make and preserve music, <...> teach the new generations the arts". The 'Delancey Foundation' was founded as a family trust, upon this principle with family approval. (See exact quote from her will below [3])

Within a few years, friends and self identified distant relatives which were moved by her actions began donating and dedicating assets in their own estates to be joined with the foundation. One such donation was one of the apartments within 2000 DeLancey Place, as a rental income provider. This single act doubled the available yearly assets. The executor of the will who had taken charge of the small foundation chose to establish a board of trustees, the first board inviting family members to take seats. Eventually, the records surfaced and the brother was contacted. Public record remaining are unclear, but foundation records are well kept, and Bill DeLancey took his seat on the board in 2000.

It should be noted, as it is in foundation records; many claimed to be unaware of exactly to whom the talented woman was actually related, but they were all aware of the prestige afforded the family. Bill DeLancey informed the lawyer that he and his mother had not had contact with "Nancy" since she left home to get married in early 1969. They were not even aware she had become a musician or where she had settled. No records of the marriage survive, and no evidence of a surviving child exist.[2]

Within a few years of her death, those whom she had moved with her music chose to show appreciation by also donating to the trust. Writers began giving songwriting credit for their collaborative works, as well as some who only wished to say they had worked with the young talent, retroactively assigning royalties to be paid to the trust. Thus, active funding of the Delancey Foundation was established.

[2] A grave marker was found in Saint Mary's Cemetery, Omaha, NE, that may be pertinent. The grave was for Victoria Anne DeLancey died Feb 1970, and the records indicate it was purchased by Nancine A. Delancey.
[3] "Make and preserve music, a timeless language that transcends borders, cultures, and generations. Music is a universal force that can inspire, uplift, and unite us all. It is a source of joy, beauty, and meaning that enriches our lives in countless ways. Teach the new generations the arts, so that they may continue to create, appreciate, and be inspired by the beauty, power, and diversity of human expression."
