Personal History[]

Originally part of the Orion Free Traders, Nalie was insulated from the Klingon takeover for several years. Her parents, the owners of a Dacoit-class cruiser, did their best to raise Nalie in a changing world. Tragically, however, both parents were killed during an encounter with the Klingons. The crew unanimously agreed to Nalie taking command, and took upon themselves the task of keeping her safe.

Though she was still young and inexperienced, the crew remained loyal to Nalie. Using what little money they had, the crew managed to repair the Malana and resume their regular trade route. However, the hard-earned lesson would stay with Nalie. Rather than sticking with simple trade jobs, the Malana began taking on a few less-than-reputable jobs in order to increase their profits. These jobs ranged from smuggling Romulan Ale into both the Federation and Klingon Empire to conducting salvage operations in deserted battlegrounds.

During one such salvage operation, a teenaged Nalie decided to take one of the salvage pods out herself. Ignoring the objections of her crew, Nalie piloted the small craft out into the debris field and began exploring. Within minutes, she came across the dead carcass of a B'rel-class Bird of Prey. Unlike most of the ships in the yard, this ship appeared mostly intact. After returning to the ship, Nalie ordered the derelict brought aboard and rebuilt. Records indicated this ship was named the IKS Y'tem, which had been lost in the later battles of the Dominion War.  Nalie spent the next several months overseeing this reconstruction, and poured the majority of her own share into acquiring the parts. Rather than simply restoring the ship, however, Nalie and crew upgraded most of the components to state-of-the art systems, and converted the once-discarded relic into a powerful mercenary ship.

As profits continued to soar, the crew realized they would need either a larger ship, or a more powerful ship. With hostilities continuing between the Federation and the Empire, and the Syndicate an ever-present threat, Nalie began looking for more powerful options. The answer came in the form of a Bortas'qu. Among the many jobs the Malana had performed were several "favors" for one of the more wealthy houses. Nalie cashed in these favors in exchange for a single Bortas'qu, customized to her specifications. Much of the internal space normally reserved for troops and their equipment was converted into extra cargo space, as well as a pleasure deck that included everything from casinos to restaurants to the more carnal attractions. This new ship was christened Navaar, and was the first of many customized ships.

With this new ship, the crew's mission focus shifted from mercenary and salvage operations to passenger service. More crew were brought in to meet the demand, and as the ship settled into its new route, the profits stabilized. Eventually, a second ship was purchased and a new route opened. After several years, a total of five ships were operating along different routes but offering similar services. As the business more firmly established itself, Nalie delegated the day-to-day operations to the captain of each ship, and refocused her own efforts onto the more enjoyable efforts she had participated in previously.

Along with the Navaar and Kemtina, she had also acquired an older D'kora class cruiser. This new ship became another pet project like the Kemtina had been, and after a few years and some negotiations, the ship was ready for operations. The Comparative Advantage began its own operations as a heavier mercenary and salvage ship, allowing the Malana to gracefully retire after decades of service.

As of the 2450's, she and her original crew have mostly retired from actively running the day to day operations, and Nalie herself has officially retired to a small moon. She does, however, still venture out on the occasional mission, and was present for both the Stardancer and Adagio launches.
