Magna Roma (892-IV) was the inhabited fourth planet of the 892 system. Classified as M-class, the planet was orbited by two moons and was the home world of the Magna Roman (Magna Romani) people.

As early as 2360, the government of the world of Magna Roma had restructured into a constitutional republic, democratically elected representatives to govern all aspects of society in their world. There are divisions of a Parliamentary style of government that distribute power of legislative, executive, and judicial branches.

Society[]

Magna Roman Society was no longer stratified in the way it once was in the past. Since restructuring to join the United Federation of Planets, the population is at large, all free citizens.

The old centers of Roman culture still held fast social structures of the past, keeping the idea of Patrician nobility, and plebian masses. The western continent was much more progressive in their restructuring, and fully embraced the ideas of Federation culture. The embraceor of the new culture is causing significant worry among the traditionalist, as Roman culture is being replaced by Federation culture at every level. Music, Art, and Literature are being pushed aside for the new ideals of freedom and equality of greater Galaxy.

History[]

By the mid-23rd century, the planet had reached the development of Earth's 20th Century. Technology included radio communications, road systems and powered transportation (such as the Jupiter 8), but no atomic power. Gladiatorial Arena games became televised. With each century, even slaves received rights to medicine and government payments in their old age; the Empire eventually managed to stop rebellions and even wars for four hundred years, achieving stability.

The Romans believed in a pantheon of gods, but a nascent movement known as Children of the Son, a parallel to Christianity on Earth, started to be embraced by gladiators, slaves, and even senators, disrupting the stability of the conservative Empire.

After exposure to the knowledge of the SS Beagle, the course of history in the Roman culture took significant turns. Exposure to interaction with the USS Enterprise, pushed changes to an even faster pace. Inside of 100 years, the church of the Children of the Son gained significant influence and pushed for political and social changes that restructured much of their society.

When the UFP sent Starfleet back to the planet to study what effect their contact had caused, they found the Empire had restructured into a Republic, Slavery had been made illegal. Within a few years the Magna Roman Parliament sued for membership in the United Federation of Planets. As full members in 2364, the newly decommissioned USS Farragut was recommissioned the USS Centurion and turned over to the Magna Roman government as planetary defense.

<updating> In the 2370s, anthropologists studying the work of the Preservers, postulated that the Magna Roman culture was transplanted from the province Pompeii just prior to the devastating volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.

Environment[]

The proportion of land to water, density (5.5 g/cm3), and atmosphere (78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen) were exactly like those on Earth. However, unlike Earth, the diameter at the equator (7,917 miles) and layout of the land masses were different.

Magna Roma had several oceans and at least three continents.

In 2378, there were an estimated 8.6 billion people living on the planet.
