The Klingon Empire is a large feudal monarchy adjacent to both the United Federation of Planets and the Romulan Star Empire. It spans several hundred planets, and is one of the major powers of the Alpha Quadrant. The Empire is over 1,100 years old, having been firmly established by Kahless the Unforgettable. Despite many difficulties and hardships, and countless wars, the Empire continues to this day.
Current Affairs[]
The current Chancellor is J'mpok, having killed Martok over 22 years ago. Recently, Emperor Kahless has declared J'mpok and all those loyal to him to be traitors, and a massive civil war is currently under way within the Empire.
Government[]
The Klingon Empire is lead by the High Council, with the Chancellor at its head. The Chancellor has ultimate authority, and his word is law. The council, consisting of the leaders of the Great Houses, has authority over all matters in the Empire, but each House has autonomy within itself.
The position of Emperor, originally the seat of power within the Empire, has since been relegated to a position of spiritual authority. This position has been held by the cloned Kahless since his return in 2369.
Military[]
Defending the Klingon Empire is the Klingon Defense Force, comprised of ships and personnel from all over the Empire. Warriors from every House serve on these ships, and it is considered a great honor to die fighting for the Empire. The KDF reports directly to the Chancellor, with Generals commanding the various fleets of the Defense Force.
Like the Federation, each ship is commanded by a Captain, with a First and Second under him. However, unlike the Federation, each officer is expected to "assist" his immediate superior into death if that superior becomes weak or unable to perform his duties.
Starships[]
The Klingons use several different starship classes, which may be part of either the KDF, or one of the Houses.
