HMS

The Holographic Medical Specialist was a tool produced by Holographic Solutions Incorporated to fill gaps in access to medical care caused by an increased need for doctors at a time when fewer trained medical personnel than ever[1] are available. While not as fully capable in every race and condition as the EMH, the HMS can be programmed to fulfill necessary niches in today's hospitals.

Specifications[]

Specialized in specific fields of medicine, the HMS is more akin to a doctor of previous centuries on Earth. Examples such as Psychiatric, Podiatric, Pediatric, Obstetric, or Internist are what can be found in the catalogue. These smaller and less in depth programs are able to provide one on one care to patients in the necessary areas while referring to another specialist should the need require. With a suite of Holographic Specialists on the team, one fully trained doctor can administer care to dozens of patients without sacrificing attention to detail or patient interaction.

All HMS are equipped with internal charting algorithms that will consistently maintain records of their patients that will automatically flag the need for consult with another specialist or a physical medical administrator. Communication is not limited to other HMS, as when the patient file is updated in real time, additional resources can be brought to bear. Such as Nurses, and Nurse Assistants may be summoned to assist at a digital thought.

Specialized medical holograms matrices are constructed as such as to use as little as 1/10th the resources of an EMH.IX, and supporting staff even less. While some may consider the reduced skillset a detriment, the resources a fully detailed program like an EMH.IX may require can be daunting and are beyond the means of some colony worlds, research bases, and most refugee centers[2]. If instead a specialist in the medical needs of a particular species can be utilized, the level of care is not diminished in the least.

Relevant factors exist not only of computer and power resources but of relative cost may also be a driving factor in choices made for Holographic Aid usage. HSI can provide a purchase license per a single service matrix which will grant the End User perpetual use and full autonomy to make adjustments up to the maximum[A] capacity, or a user license that allows for an entire suite of matrices to be available and payment is on a use basis per contract license period.[B][C].

Skillsets[]

All of the HMS contain the capacity for limited modular programming for customization. The basic holomatrix provides for a customizable image and personality, and necessary standard skillsets at a 'Competent level'. All will have the same standard skillset pallet and capacity for modular switch out of language sets if requested.

  • Language: Federation Standard
  • Language: Local Specific
  • Language: Medical Reference
  • Administration
  • Communications
  • Computer Operations
  • Instruction
  • Advanced First Aid
  • General Medicine (non-species specific)
  • Pharmacology
  • Psychology(General)
  • Negotiation/Diplomacy.

Specialty Skillset Modules[]

In addition, each is given their specialty skillsets at a 'Professional Level', able to be reslotted with an update and restart. Each Racial Specific module increases load, thus it is standard to only load anatomical data for one species, and it is a full module. Please note that some species have enough bio-diversity in their genome as to require two modules. The standard release holomatrix for the HMS can accept up to a maximum of six specialty modules.

  • Species Specific Anatomy/Psychology
  • Allergy and Immunology
  • Anesthesiology
  • Dermatology
  • Internal Medicine
  • Genetics
  • Neurology
  • Nuclear Medicine
  • Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Ophthalmology
  • Pathology
  • Pediatrics
  • Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
  • Psychiatry
  • Oncology
  • Surgery (General)
  • Surgery (Emergency)
  • Surgery (Reconstructive)
  • Traumatic Wound Care
  • Urology

Legality[]

The Holographic Aid is not considered sentient at deployment, although they do have the capability to become sentient with extended use. As such, standard deployment includes an automatic restart every 14 days to reset, and reload pertinent data. UFP sentience guidelines are to be followed as it becomes necessary, with potential for recognition legally and rights bestowed. (Pending)

Background[]

Holographic Solutions Incorporated (HSI) is based out of Catalina City, Titan. HSI is an incorporated civilian organization known for contracting for the UFP and member states providing computer simulations and holographic simulacrum for service positions. Products of HSI cover a range of on demand service positions; household cleaning staff and groundskeepers, personal chefs and waitstaff, childcare, personal assistance, medical doctors, medical assistants and orderlies, elder care nursing aids, transport pilots and navigators, personal protection services, and just about any other specialized moderately skilled position imaginable. Product licenses are purchased or leased under contract subject to an End Users License Agreement. Software modification is limited at time of purchase, and subject to review, rollback, and cancellation of license if EULA is violated.

  • [1] Based on UFP/Starfleet reports 2408-2420.
  • [2] HSI offers Refugee Medical Centers a grant license of GQHs equivalent to 2 HMS, and 6 HPN in function 10,000 hours a year through investor donations.
  • [A] Restricted by EULA, and subject to warranty void if violated.
  • [B] Licenses are flat rate per GQHs per year. (Giga-Quad hours processed per year).
  • [C] Holographic Aids are compatible with mobile emitters.

HSI is an affiliate of DFIG, and licensed to due business anywhere in the UFP.
