The Hazard Team Program is experimental program initiated in April of 2425. The concept is taken from an elite section created by then Lieutenant Commander Tuvok aboard the USS Voyager to combat various threats beyond what normal security procedures were intended to handle. Equipped with better gear and equipment, the hazard team was trained to adapt to evolving situations, and often utilized non-Federation and unconventional weapons when necessary to complete an objective.
Initially proposed by crewmembers aboard the USS Sentinel, this project is an attempt to merge the best qualities of Task Force Delta and standard security trainings and procedures into a single, cohesive unit. In addition, Hazard Team incorporates lessons learned from Voyager's journey through the Delta Quadrant, as well as the Project Magellan missions.
With initial success in the 2420's the project has been expanded to include teams aboard multiple ships. Unlike Task Force Delta and the similar MACO that preceded it, Hazard Team intentionally incorporates specialists from multiple disciplines to maximize the available skillsets for a given mission. Most teams consist of one specialist, each of which has been trained in combat in addition to their normal duties.
Each Hazard Team member will specialize in one or more of the following roles:
- Sniper
- Scout
- Demolitions Expert
- Heavy Weapons Specialist
- Engineering Specialist
- Field Medic
- Quartermaster
- Intelligence
