22nd Mobile Daedalus Wiki

If you're here, that means you're interested in joining the 22nd, and we are excited to have you! The process can seem overwhelming, so we've put together this helpful guide to ease you into things. This 12 step process will make joining the fleet as painless as possible.

What you'll need:[]

  1. An account on Star Trek Online. A good majority of our roleplay happens in this game. If you don't already have an account, don't worry. The game is free to play, so you can create an account for free over at https://www.playstartrekonline.com/
  2. A computer that can play Star Trek Online. The system requirements can be found at https://www.arcgames.com/en/store/star-trek-online.
  3. A Federation-aligned character. Star Trek Online has several options for character choices, including Federation, Klingon, Romulan, Dominion, and two era-specific Federation variants: TOS or Discovery. Romulans and the Dominion can choose to ally themselves with either the Federation or Klingon Empire. TOS and Discovery both have a starting area to play through. Really, the only "wrong" choice here is a Klingon or Klingon-allied character. For best results, you should also be at least level 10.
  4. A Discord account. Most of our coordination happens on Discord, including setting up characters and planning events. Several of the steps below will happen on Discord, so make sure you register an account over at https://discord.com/.
  5. A basic character idea. We can help you build your character and even give a few ideas, but your own concepts would help the process immensely.

First Steps[]

Once you have all of the above, we can get started on introducing you into the fleet.

  1. Join our Discord. This is where the majority of our character creation and event planning happens.
    • Check out the read-me-first channel for some helpful links.
    • Be sure to ask for the assistance role in the welcome channel. That role will give you access to some additional channels and let our DGMs know you need help with your character.
    • Navigate to the Transfer Request forum. There's an existing post that will help get you started with character creation.
  2. Read the Players Handbook to get an idea of how to build and play with your character. It's a lot of information, but don't worry! there's a template that will walk you through the build process, and our DGMs will be happy to help.
  3. Pick your ship. The home page has a list of the currently active ships and what times they usually fly. And yes, you can have a character on both if you want! A lot of members have a character on each ship, but there's no pressure to do so. Once you've decided on your ship, be sure to check with a DGM for that ship. They can give you an idea of what positions are open, and how well your character concept will work. If you're wondering which ship to pick, we can help with that too.
    • Stardancer is a new ship that meets Friday nights (or Saturday morning). There's a lot of cadets who are close to graduating. A great place to get started, because none of these characters know what they're doing either.
    • Adagio is a legacy ship with a legendary past, now flying on Sundays. All new crew though, and they're always looking for talented people to join.
  4. Build your character. Let's go back to the Player's handbook linked above and look for that template. It's a great guide to help build out your character. And again, our DGMs are ready and happy to help.
  5. Set up your in-game channels. At some point prior to your first session, you should set up the in-game channels. We use several channels in-game to communicate. We'll list them here, and you'll want to be in all of them so you can follow along and participate in the story. You can join these channels with the command /channel_join <channel_name>.
    • Daedalus_OOC: This channel is where we talk out of character. If we're just hanging out, or have questions about something that just happened, this is the place to talk.
    • DOIC: This channel stands for Daedalus Online In-Character. DOIC is where the important stuff happens. If a post happens in DOIC, it probably affects everyone in the session. In most cases, only the DGM will post in DOIC.
    • DOIC#: The following channels can vary in their usage. The description will give an idea of how they're usually used, but those uses are not static and may change depending on who needs it.
      • DOIC1: Used for the main action or primary location (Often the bridge of the host ship, but may also be a starbase or planet)
      • DOIC2: Often used for personal quarters, the mess hall, or another location where something important is happening.
      • DOIC3: A favorite channel for Engineering, sickbay, or another lower-decks area.
      • DOIC4: Frequently used for holodecks, shuttlebays, or other areas indicating someone has left the ship.
      • DOIC5: Occasionally used for an away team, utility rooms and tunnels, or other seldom-visited places.
      • DOIC6: Primarily an overflow channel for off-ship activities.
  6. Join the Fleet. This step is entirely optional, but joining the fleet will allow you to use the fleet holdings for roleplay. Any of our existing members can invite you to the fleet, so feel free to ask for a fleet invite either on discord or before a ship's session.
  7. First session! Once you have a character, it's time to get ready and roleplay! Feel free to look over the rest of the wiki for some fleet history, or revisit the Player's Handbook and get an idea of how skill checks work. When it's time for the roleplay, head into game and let's do some roleplay!

Again, if you have questions at any point, please don't hesitate to reach out to one of our DGMs. We look forward to exploring with you!
