Roleplay within our fleet is facilitated by a Game Master, which we usually refer to as a DGM (Daedalus Game Master). There are four basic levels to DGMs, but all levels will have the authority to facilitate roleplay and manage players to some degree. For a full list of all active DGM's, see DGMs.
Game Master Administrator[]
A Game Master Administrator is the final authority within the fleet. The DGM Administrator is responsible for the overall direction of the fleet, including any overarching storylines that affect multiple ships or the entire fleet. Administrators are also responsible for maintaining the message board and the in-game fleet, and have final authority in matters of discipline, assignments, and logistics.
The current Game Master Administrators are DGM Cygnus and DGM Apocalypse.
Ship Game Master[]
A Ship Game Master holds authority over a specific ship, and is responsible for all aspects of that ship's operation, including the following:
- Maintaining the Ship Player and NPC Roster
- Maintaining the Ship's Operations Sheet
- Creating and maintaining Non-Player Characters for interactions with the players.
- Creating the storyline and settings for the ship and its crew.
- Maintaining skill sheets and awarding skill points to players.
- Approving or denying awards as recommended by the ship's command staff.
- Moderating any skill use by using available tools, including the story, skill-based rolls, or any other medium required.
- Resolving any out-of-character disputes that arise during a roleplay session, or in connection with that ship.
Any new player will quickly become familiar with their ship's DGM, as that person is both their primary source of contact and the primary authority for each player on a given ship. Each DGM is typically responsible for a single ship, and each ship usually meets every week for roughly 3 hours. As such, DGM's are expected to provide about 3 hours' worth of content on a weekly basis.
Fleet Game Master[]
Fleet DGM is a special position held by a single DGM at a time, much like any ship DGM.
The Fleet DGMs role is held in addition to that of Assisting DGM or normal DGM and serves a single point of managing topics which does not otherwise clearly fall under one of the fleets active PC ships and their respective DGMs nor of a nature where it directly needed to be brought to Fleet Admins.
The Fleet DGM is the DGM responsible for:
- All PCs not assigned to an active PC ship, Including former or inactive PCs.
- Old or inactive NPCs or other assets from retired DGMs which are not currently controlled by active DGMs.
- Former or inactive PC ships, Installations. Storylines, Development or other creations related to them.
- Ships, Installations, Storylines, Developments or Creations of PC’s not assigned to an active PC ships and other topics not clearly assigned to a DGMs responsibility. All other assets not clearly under the control of another DGM and which does not directly fall under the control of the Fleet Admins.
The Fleet DGM has the same authority over their area(s) as a Ship DGM has over their ships and remains answerable to the Fleet Admin.
Assistant Game Master[]
The role of an assistant DGM exists to support the fleet’s DGMs and admins in various ways, work for a smooth-running day to day of the fleet and step in in the absence of a DGM.
An Assistant DGM has in their position the following duties.
- Run events if a ship’s actual DGM is unable to.
- Host or assist with socials and holiday specials.
- Assist a DGM were needed, both in events and outside of such.
- Host or assist with cross ship events.
- Hold an event or a social if the ships DGM is more then 60 minutes late without prior notifications.
- Act to assist a DGM in other unforeseeable circumstances, such as taking over mid event.
- Running NPC’s
When an assistant DGM fills in for another DGM, they may use characters and tie-ins from other active ships and storylines as long as they take care to not interfere with or hinder ongoing plots of other ships or the plans of other DGMs (Use of out of time / time bubble / Alternate realities etc. is a good way to circumvent this issue in times where an ongoing arc is active or previous episodes ended on to be continued.).
The role of Assistant DGM can also be granted to new DGMs in training, at such time they do not hold the same responsibility nor authority as stated above until they gradually step up in their responsibilities as they have training and feel comfortable in their role as well as shown understanding of the duties of the position.
