Petty Officer 1st Class Edward "Splash" McNale was only twenty one years of age in 2394, at the time of his death while serving in Starfleet in a Special Operations Group on a classified mission. Among other commendations and awards throughout his short career, PO1 McNale was awarded the Starfleet Command Decoration for Valor in recognition of his actions and sacrifice in his last mission.
Biography[]
Edward Arthur McNale was raised in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Earth. His parents both educators at University of Pennsylvania, are also office holders in the Delancey Foundation. Edward spend many hours of his young life surrounded by the historical music, and preservation efforts of the Foundation. Once completing early education, Edward was admitted to St. Joseph's Preparatory School, with intention to gain status to be admitted to the University.
Edward, named for his mother's father, was more interested in World History than music, like his grandfather. Still, Edward stood out at St. Joseph's not for his academics, but for his penchant for ancient music that he learned from his time at the Foundation.
Records do not show precisely when it happened, but photos and interviewed family suggest that part of his academic problems stemmed from a very social attitude. As a new student, he became enamored with a senior from San Francisco that would become his fiancée, and used his social nature to win her over. Edward and Kira remained in contact as he finished his Secondary Schooling, while she had been accepted to Starfleet Academy. She was a rising star in the Academy, when he was informed he would not be acceptable due to a poor academic record.
Not to be deterred from a life together, Edward enlisted into Starfleet service in the hopes they might be stationed together. He completed his basic training, and was acceptable for special operations training. Edward and Kira counted themselves very lucky, when two years they were both assigned to the USS Arcadia a Steamrunner Class border patrol frigate.
A few months later, that luck would be questioned when Kira as a pilot for the Special Operations Team which included her fiancée Edward. Mission details are classified, but 2nd Lieutenant Kira Daniels was the only survivor of the mission, and she was off duty for 11 months for recovery after the action.
