East Gideon was the largest city of the North Eastern Continent of Vega IX with a population 10,058,119 as of 2400 census, 93% human. It, along with the rest of the Vega IX colonies were either destroyed or assimilated in January, 2409.
History[]
East Gideon was founded originally as Gideon's Redoubt on May 5, 2123, by members of the LDS Church colonists. They traveled to Vega IX aboard the ECS Moroni from Earth on a 232 month journey. When Captain Joseph M. Smith chose his landing point, there would be no turning back. The Moroni was built in space, and was designed to descend only once at the end of her one way trip. The Moroni was disassembled and used to build the initial shelters and utilities until the settler's own industry could provide for them. The LDS Church was an insular group, difficult to trust others which is why they had chosen to settle on a different continent than the Vega Concern. The only contact with another group they allowed was the trade negotiated with the Clan Badi who had chosen not to settle on the planet but to establish a station in orbit and mine the asteroids. The trade was highly beneficial as the land of Vega IX proved to be highly arable, but usable ores tended to run in veins deep under ground in the region of Gideon's Redoubt, and the space based colonists had no land yet to farm.
In November of 2128, a second colony ship containing Clan Badi arrived, and due to the relationship their predecessors had grown with the LDS Colonists both groups agreed that joining causes and settling together was most advantageous. The ECS Hieronymus was not a ship destined to be grounded. It was carrying drop pods full of the supplies needed, including livestock and fresh seedstock. The Badi colonists settled just across what LDS Colonists named Hiddekel River. The village the Badi built they named Schronienie, the Romani word for shelter.
By the beginning of the 23rd century, the two villages had become a single community. Their differences were respected, and while their people celebrated their own cultures, the city grew into a single entity. In 2305, the people took a vote, and formed a single governing body. With this vote, the city of East Gideon was founded. It grew rapidly, with good soil and good souls. Resources were plenty as the Badi maintained a transfer station and lift ships to transfer resources to and from space. The city prospered and grew. By 2400, the citizens growing families and continuing growth through immigration, had pushed its population to above 10 million souls.
2409; The Borg invasion decimated East Gideon.
2422; Starfleet declared after a decade of struggle that the Borg Collective had been defeated in the Vega System, and eager survivors returned to their home to seek remnants of lives left behind. Hand in hand, the survivors took in members of their population that had been assimilated and were recovered by Starfleet, and eagerly await the others still waiting for their freedom. They agreed to try to restore Vega IX to the natural beauty that it once was, and broke ground on the new Vega Colony. That ground breaking is on the Hiddekel River, and will be known as New Gideon. The New Vega Colony is represented by a citizen the Vega Colony and former Borg, known as Nine of Twelve.
Representatives of the colony thank Starfleet and the United Federation of Planets for the support and assistance in their recovery. They also than the other members of the DFIG for their physical, community, and financial support. Many of the survivors either were part of or employed by DFIG Affiliates.
