  • July 2455 - Escaped from Starbase 129, causing severe damage to a space door.

Deck Layout[]

The Kaplan F17 consists of two decks.

Deck 1[]

The forward compartment contains four control consoles and a central command chair, with a large forward window. The consoles are capable of both two and three dimensional inputs, and both the consoles and window have holographic overlay capability.

The aft compartments include a transporter bay, captain and crew staterooms, and stateroom-sized holodeck. There are a total of six staterooms, including the Captain and Holodeck.

Two cargo bays are accessed through doors on either side of the forward compartment.

Deck 2[]

Deck two includes a science lab, sickbay, dining hall, engineering access, and cargo access. As with the larger bays on Deck 1, the cargo bays on Deck 2 can be accessed through exterior hatches on either side of the living spaces.

Systems[]

Scans of the Dizzy Lizzy have recorded several deviations from the standard F17 design. At least some of these modifications have significantly enhanced the performance of the ship, well beyond the standard metric for civilian ownership. Some of the systems on board may or may not be illegal.

Weapon Systems[]

Phaser emitters[]
  • Four primary emitters that can fire both beams and pulsed phasers. The primary weapons, when fired together, are roughly equivalent in strength to Defiant-class pulse phasers.
  • Secondary emitters for point defense and non-parallel attack vectors are also present.
Missile / torpedo launchers[]

The Dizzy utilizes launchers that can fire multiple micro-torpedoes or missiles in rapid succession. Individually not as powerful as a standard photon torpedo, but combined can quickly wear down a target's shields.

Defensive Systems[]

Ablative armor generators[]

First encountered by Voyager, Ablative armor generators are designed to create and maintain a second layer of armor plating around the ship, including normally-exposed areas like windows, phaser emitters, torpedo ports, and warp nacelles. This armor will ablate away when damaged and be regenerated automatically by the generators. The ablative generators interfere with energy weapons, shields, and cloaking systems, and cannot be used simultaneously. The armor plating around the missile launchers can be temporarily opened to allow these weapons to be fired.

Multi-regenerative shielding[]

Utilizing progressive upgrade iterations from Starfleet, Klingon, and Romulan designs, these shields will rapidly regenerate while under fire, with a regeneration rate of approximately 20% of maximum every 6 seconds.

Cloaking Device[]

Based on reports, this is a standard cloaking device, most likely a federation-built design. As with most cloak designs, the extreme power requirements of the cloaking device prevents simultaneous use while the ablative armor or shields are active.

Holographic Illusions[]

The holographic emitters (see below) can be used to create external effects, including a shell around the ship and other simulated ships as decoys.

Power Systems[]

Impulse Reactors[]

Two combat-rated fusion reactors feeding the impulse engines. These reactors can also be used for supplementary power when the warp core is offline or operating on reduced power.

Warp Core[]

The warp core has been fitted with an additional power capacitor to allow for the dual mode drive (see below). In all other respects, the warp core is a standard matter-antimatter warp core, although it is significantly more powerful than the core normally installed on the F17 series.

The basic design is a multi-channel input into a multi-chambered reaction area, allowing for multiple sustained reactions simultaneously. Each chamber operates independently of the others, and power can be increased or decreased dynamically by activating or deactivating multiple reaction chambers. At full output, the assembly is capable of producing the equivalent power to a standard Galaxy class, albeit in a package approximately one tenth the size. At minimum output, a single reaction chamber produces the power output equivalent to a Danube class runabout. With a variable power output, the signature can be changed to match any illusions depicting another class of vessel.

Propulsion Systems[]

Impulse Engines[]

Four main engines, with two smaller engines for increased precision maneuvering. Maximum output is theoretically capable of pushing this ship to a full 1C, although this speed has never been tested.

Dual mode Warp / Slipstream Drive[]

Unlike most methods of achieving slipstream, the Dizzy's slipstream drive operates on a hybrid system that uses a combination of the standard warp core with a power capacitor to supplement the required power. Colloquially known as the "Nalie special," the drive utilizes an additional power capacitor to provide slipstream velocity for limited amounts of time. Unlike the standard slipstream drive, this drive does not use benamite crystals, and can be used for normal warp travel without any changes to configuration. Energy is stored from the core in the capacitor, then both impulse reactors, the warp core, and the slipstream capacitor are used simultaneously to power the slipstream drive.

This setup allows for standard parts to be used without taking up extra space, but has a slight disadvantage in speed and distance. Because the system uses a capacitor instead of the benamite core, the drive is only capable of operating for approximately 30 seconds, which is the equivalent distance of traveling at Warp 9.99 for approximately 108.2 days. Due to the incredible speeds involved, additional calculations are necessary, both for direction and for timing. In addition, computer control is required for all slipstream operations.

Coaxial Induction Drive[]

An experimental drive system based on designs encountered by the USS Voyager in 2374. This drive modifies the geometry of subatomic particles, which allows for the folding of spacetime and enables travel across large distances. This drive also includes a polaric modulator that prevents particle instabilities from potentially causing an system overload.

(Note: This system is similar to, but different from, the system deployed on the Rendino class. This design can be considered a variation or a design fork, and may be based on an early prototype from the development of the Rendino's current system.)

Other Notable Systems[]

Holographic Systems[]

The entire ship, both interior and exterior, is fitted with holographic emitters. The interior emitters are capable of producing objects or lifelike persons but cannot replicate entire environments like a holodeck. The exterior emitters can also be used to create objects or people as noted above, but can also be used together to create optical illusions such as an asteroid or another class of ship. All holographic illusions must be no more than 150m long, 100m wide, or 60m tall.

Options for holographic disguises include a small asteroid, Angosian transport, Cardassian Hideki class, Dominion Attack Ship, Starfleet Daedalus class, Hirogen ship, Ju'day class, 22nd century Klingon Bird of Prey, Klingon Raptor class, Krenim Patrol ship, Nihydron Ship, Romulan Scout ship, Vulcan Vahklas class, Xindi Insectoid Warship, and various small freighter and transport ship types.

High-Performance Computer Cores[]

Based on an intelligence report leaked from Starfleet Intelligence, this ship possesses a computer system capable of sustaining multiple artificial lifeforms. The computational capacity is split among multiple cores that can be interlinked or maintained separately. Each core is assumed to be responsible for a specific subsystem, with the linked capacity enabling communication between systems. A core can also offload or assume the responsibilities of any other core that has been damaged or destroyed if the links between those systems are intact. While linked together, the combined processing power is significantly greater than the standard capacity of a Starfleet vessel, and analysts estimate that the ship can perform basic flight operations with as much as 80% of the cores offline.

Landing Systems[]

The F17 series are equipped with landing gear. The gear pads are located on the underside of each nacelle. Since the F17 was originally designed as a freighter, the ship is readily capable of landing on both planets and larger shuttle bays.
