The Diplomatic Officer is an officer specially trained or qualified in the area of diplomacy. These officers are often on the fast track to becoming Diplomats, and are usually held in high regard by the Captain and Senior Staff. Typically of Command rank, these officers are authorized to perform many of the same diplomacy-related duties normally reserved for a Starship Captain.
Originally, this position was relatively rare, as Command-rank officers held this privelege anyway. However, with the recent conflicts, the Dimplomacy Corps decided to take a more active approach, and begain cross-training officers specifically for this area of responsibility. These officers are often from the scientific or medical field, as a certain amount of compassion is needed.
