Deep Space Nine

Deep Space Nine

Deep Space Nine, sometimes referred to as DS9, is a Frontier-class space station located at the mouth of the Bajoran Wormhole. This Federation-built and Starfleet operated station is the second station to bear the name, having replaced the previous station in 2447.

Unlike Terok Nor, which was originally constructed for ore processing, the new station has been purposed built as a deep-space starbase. This station is equipped with full construction and repair facilities, engineering and science labs, a fully-staffed medical center, docking and cargo bays. The station is also equipped with the latest in defensive and offensive systems, including regenerative shields, phasers, multiple torpedo types, and ablative armor. The latter only protects vital areas, such as operations and the power cores.

Notable locations:

  • Starfleet
    • Operations - Informally known as the Hub, Operations serves as the central command center for the station. All station operations are coordinated here, including power management, docking procedures, and coordination of cargo and personnel transfers.
    • Explosive Device Containment Chamber - An inverse bunker designed to safely dispose of any detected ordinance without placing the station or nearby starships in danger.
    • Runabout Hangars - multiple single-ship locations allowing runabouts to dock. A lifting platform would lower the runabout into the station and allow it to be stored in the hangar. A second runabout could temporarily land on the platform, but only one runabout could be stored in each hangar.
    • Stockade complex - A detention facility that served as a brig and holding facility.
    • Sector General - Also referred to simply as The Hospital. A fully-equipped medical facility that treats any patient regardless of their citizenship or legal status.
  • Memorial Park - A large natural area featuring multiple recreational areas and serving as a fallback component for the station's life support system.
    • Memorial Deck - A dedicated location with plaques listing personnel who have died on both iterations of Deep Space Nine.
    • Miniature forest
    • Swimming pools
    • Theatre
  • Plaza - a three-deck area containing multiple shops and restaurants. Equivalent to the Promenade on Terok Nor.
    • Bajoran Temple
    • Bella's Confections - A shop specializing in desserts
    • Cafe Parisienne - a Paris-themed cafe serving human food and beverages.
    • Ibix - A sushi restaurant featuring a Xindi Aquatic chef.
    • Quarks - One of many franchise locations.
    • Replimat - Self-service restaurant utilizing replicators.
    • Worlds Apart - A high-class restaurant notable for its long waiting list.
