Dr. Danielle La'Roche was born on Titan, in the Christpher's Landing, Brack University Hospital. Her family was from Earth, visiting Titan on business when little Danielle was born earlier than expected. Growing up on Earth as a privileged youth, Danielle dedicated herself to experiences and education without regard to actual contribution. Attending university working for a third masters degree in 2378, this time in Robotics, her life was changed by a holo-novel, "Photons Be Free".
Upon finishing the novel for the third time, Danielle contacted the publisher Broht & Forrester. Using her name and family's wealth, she secured a personal copy and background information on the author. She was so moved by the idea that a hologram could be so ill affected that it would strike out to cry for help, she wanted to help. She felt some responsibility as her family had for more than a year been employing a large number of decommissioned EMH who had been reduced to difficult work in the Dilithium mining and refining facilities managed by the DFIG.
Danielle took the novel to her father Bashir La'Roche and after showing him her research convinced him to provide a grant to research the claims that the EMH of a Starfleet ship could become sentient at all, and what that would mean for their work force. She had pointed out how the DFIG had been a staunch proponent of sentient rights, ever since some of the Vega mining affiliates of the DFIG had partnered with Horta in 2359.
Holographic Solutions Incorporated[]
Danielle took her grant funds to Titan where facilities could be isolated, and not draw significant attention. The team was assembled and HSI was legally founded in late 2378. She courted and hired the best minds she could that were not already dedicated to Daystrom, or Starfleet.

- Research and verify data may have allowed for the result of sentience, and any safeguards that can be put into effect to avoid that result
- Research what form it might take if a holographics/photonics were to rise to the rank of a life form
