Odyssey-class CIC
The Combat Information Center (also known as CIC, Operations Room, or Action Information Center) is the tactical center of a starship or military facility providing processed information for command and control of the near battle space or 'area of operations'. CICs are usualy only present on Flagships, Sector Command vessels, and Starbases.
Regardless of the vessel or command locus, each CIC organizes and processes information into a form more convenient and usable by the commander in authority. Each CIC funnels communications and data received over multiple channels from several types of data, which is then organized, evaluated, weighted and arranged to provide ordered timely information flow to the battle command staff under the control of the CIC officer and his aides.
The ship's Strategic Operations Officer typicaly uses the CIC between action to coordinate and obtain relevent information for the successful performance of his duties.The CIC can also double as a very efficient mission briefing room, in the absence of a dedicated one.
