The Beryxians are a humanoid species occupying the planet of Beryxia in the Large Magellanic Cloud. As of 2434, they are part of the United Federation of Planets.
Origins[]
According to Beryxian legend, their people were part of the Chantry of Delphia until a "darkness" overtook the order, prompting a schism that saw the departure of their predecessors and settlement upon the world of Beryxia. Since then they have lived a relatively peaceful existence, their culture focused primarily upon the pursuit of art and a deeper understanding of the universe.
Physical[]
Beryxians are humanoid with skin of varying shades of gold. They are considered by many to be one of the most physically attractive species in the LMC. Their eyes and hair tend to be naturally darker - in the brown and black ranges - but they have been known to change them cosmetically to any shade one could imagine. Tattoos, piercings and other body modifications are also common, with far too many styles, categories and subcultures attached to even begin listing here.
Government[]
The Kingdom of Beryxia is a constitutional monarchy, with Auvyna Kyran currently serving as prime minister and King Zaven Dyrellia III as monarch. The Dyrellia dynasty has existed since before Beryxia was discovered.
As members of the Federation they maintain an embassy in the Earth city of New Orleans.
Culture[]
Beryxians believe that art is the highest calling of all sentient beings. In their philosophy everything can be a form of art, from the more obvious like music or sculpture to the mundane - the artistry of movement, of the music in the ambient, of the patterns of light filtered through windows. They are a vibrant people, communal and typically welcoming of outsiders who they can inspire and draw inspiration from.
This focus upon art has lead Beryxia to be considered by many to be the cultural center of the Large Magellanic Cloud after the Citadel, upon which they also have a large presence. They are considered leaders in theater, dance, music, fashion and a number of other fields, and have also been growing much more influential in the Milky Way as of late.
Their attitudes on nudity and sexuality have caused mixed reactions from the other species. Their belief is that bodies in all forms are their own works of art and should be displayed and enjoyed however its bearer chooses as long as all parties consent. Some forms of Beryxian performing arts could also be considered prostitution. At present, Beryxia is ranked at number two on the 'Most Requested Crew Leave Destination' list.
