Artificial Intelligence (abbreviated "AI") is a term used to describe any form of intelligence that was created by another being. The term is often used interchangeably with artificial lifeform, but there is a subtle and distinct difference between the two. Unlike artificial lifeforms, AI's are not necessarily self-aware, and can be constructed in a way that limits their cognitive functions to prevent that condition from emerging.AI also refers strictly to digital consciousness, and does not include non-biological constructs or entities which exist outside the confines of a computer.
Legal Status[]
Under Federation law, AI's fall under the same category as all other artificial lifeforms, and must exhibit the same qualities to qualify for citizenship.
