The 22nd Mobile Fleet is one of Starfleet's premier forward-deployed multi-divisional rapid-response force.
At one point, it was one of the largest of the forward-deployed numbered fleets, with 80 to 90 ships, over 300 support craft and around 40,000 Starfleet personnel. Over its existence, the fleet has been tasked with every form of assignment, including major defensive operations, criminal investigations, protection escorts, diplomatic envoys, and exploratory missions. The fleet is currently tasked with maintaining security on both ends of the Artesia Gateway and ongoing exploration of the LMC.
History
The 22nd Mobile was founded on Stardate 84144.54 (February 22, 2410), and placed under the command of Admiral Spenta Myrunjia. The fleet has changed significantly over the years, and has been based out of multiple locations, including K-7 and Deep Space Nine. The fleet now has a permanent home at Starbase 220, with a forward base at the Citadel.
Operations
While the peak wartime strength of the 22nd Mobile was near 100 combat-capable ships, the current fleet operates with fewer than 50 ships, ranging in size, strength, and purpose from combat-capable cruisers to freighters and support ships. Of the 45 ships currently assigned to 22nd Mobile, 25 ships operate within the sectors near Starbase 220 and the Citadel, with the remainder operating primarily within the LMC. These forward-deployed units represent the heart of 22nd Mobile, and operate across multiple Starfleet Operational Commands.
